Sears store at West Acres to close doors
Fargo, ND (WDAY News) - Dozens of people will soon be without a job and the entire metro, without a well-known department store.
The news broke to employees Wednesday, the same time it was publicly announced.
This is part of a nationwide cut of 150 stores.
Sources tell us 53 people in Fargo will lose their job.
The source says full time and management will be offered severance packages or something else comparable.
Compensation for part time employees is unknown.
Now, this all follows a difficult year for several retailers.
Financial experts say while shopper spending is normal, people are just doing more of it online making the cost of keeping a large store open too expensive for little profit.
Shoppers we talked to aren't surprised by this move.
"I guess I don't know too many people that go to Sears, but it's kind of a home place I guess. There's a lot of other stores that compete with it, so some have to go out with the old and in with the new, that's kind of the way things go these days now," said Brad Clemens, Shopper.
Sources say the Fargo store will likely close March 26th.
Besides Sears, K-Mart in Detroit Lakes, which is owned by the same company will also be closing.
The K-Mart in Moorhead closed in September.
