Plans discussed for new refinery in Devils Lake
A new oil refinery may be built near Devils Lake, according to Mayor Dick Johnson. The 20,000 barrel per day refinery planned by American Energy Holdings LLC would employ 50-100 people. Johnson says it's premature to say a deal is done but "they have interest in us and we have interest in them.
Johnson says a lot of things have to come together before a deal is finalized, with one potential obstacle being discharge of wastewater.
Johnson says the company has an aggressive time frame for moving forward, with talks of groundbreaking in the spring. The refinery would produce diesel and aviation fuel.
American Energy Holdings is based in Michigan. The cost of the project is estimated at $275 million.
