Few oil spills reported to public, regulators review policies

There have been nearly 300 oil pipeline spills in the last two years, none of which have been reported to the public.

The latest spill was 20,000 barrels on September 29th near Tioga. It wasn't reported to the public for 11 days. State regulators are not required to report "incidents," but say they are reviewing their policies. Farmers and environmentalists believe the problem will grow and possibly threaten farmland and water sources. North Dakota is the nation's second largest oil producer, with 1 million barrels a day.
