Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - UND's new canine officer helped with his first arrest.

Around 2:30 Friday morning, UND police performed a traffic stop at the 400 block of north Fifth Street.

Ben, the department's 2-year-old yellow lab retriever, assisted with the stop.

During the search, officers found meth-making materials.

44-year-old Trent Johnston faces a number of charges, including conspiracy to manufacture meth.

As for Ben, he's not even an official member of the force yet.

Ben will be sworn in as a member of the UND Police Department on Monday.
