Body of missing swimmer found in Buffalo Lake
A swimmer was found dead in a lake in Pierce County, North Dakota.
Authorities were called out to Buffalo Lake, near Esmond, North Dakota, late Saturday night, after authorities received a call saying a swimmer disappeared.
The victim is a 20 year old male, who lived in Benson County.
Authorities are not releasing the victim's name, due to family notifications and an ongoing investigation.
Once the body was found, it was taken to the UND medical center in Grand Forks for an autopsy.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says authorities searched throughout Saturday night looking for the missing swimmer.
After a shore search was unsuccessful, North Dakota Game and Fish used sonar to search the lake until Sunday afternoon.
Paul Freeman with North Dakota Game And Fish said, "Searched the area until about one 30 or so, that's when they discovered, or when we saw something on the screen that appeared to be what we were looking for, and it was confirmed by a submersible unit, then the dive team went and retrieved the victim."
Paul Freeman with North Dakota Game and Fish says the victim was not wearing a life jacket when he was found.
Freeman stresses that life jackets are the single most important tool to staying safe on the water.
