Car hit 11-year-old walking to Moorhead school; driver cited

MOORHEAD - A car struck an 11-year-old girl crossing a street this morning on her way to school, Moorhead police said.

The girl was in a crosswalk on 40th Avenue at the intersection with 11th Street, near Reinertsen Elementary School, when she was hit, police said.


Witnesses told officers the car was headed east on 40th Avenue, going about 20 mph. The crash happened before a crossing guard came on duty, police said.

Paramedics took the girl to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

The driver, Adam Mousel, 23, of Moorhead, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and careless driving, police said.
