Dispute between Griggs County and contractor building new courthouse
Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - A dispute between Griggs County and the contractor hired to build a new courthouse and emergency operations center is likely to end up in court.
Grand Forks-based company Construction Engineers filed a lien for more than $850,000 against Griggs County and the Griggs County Building Authority.
The firm walked off the job site in May, and terminated its contract with the county effective today.
The building is nearly finished, but remains empty.
The Griggs County States Attorney says the county and the building authority are arguing over which group is responsible for paying the contractor.
Jamey Tenneson/Griggs County States Attorney: “It's an unfortunate situation for the county, including the contractors.”
More than $800,000 in funding for the emergency operations center is being held up by the state until it can be determined the money will be used for the operations center and not the courthouse part of the project.
