Superintendent David Pace said the district has hired JLG Architects to determine potential renovations. The planning was initiated because the majority of the high school is more than 50 years old and in need of updates, he said.

All the district’s other schools were constructed or updated following the flood of 1997, but he said the high school has only had ventilation upgrades.

Pace mentioned the school’s music facilities, performing arts center, science labs, gymnasium and locker rooms as potential areas for updates or renovation.

Currently, planning and assessment are still in the infancy stage, but Pace said JLG should have some initial assessments ready by early fall.

From there, public meetings regarding the plans would be held, he said, and any proposed work and its estimated cost will go before the School Board before voters get a chance to decide.
