Family and Friends grieve the death of Evan Poitra

There has been a rise in teenagers using prescription drugs for recreation, and it appears that may have claimed the life of one Grand Forks teen.

Police say they are investigating to see if prescription drugs may be involved in the death of 19-year-old Evan Poitra.

Details surrounding the death are sketchy at this point, but Investigators tell us they do not believe Poitra took his own life.

Family and friends have taken to Facebook, posting hundreds of messages and photos to honor Poitra.

Poitra graduated from Red River High School last year.

Around 6 Wednesday morning, family members found Poitra unresponsive at their home.

Counselors say this is a tragic time for family and friends, but no one should go through the grieving process alone.

Altru Psychiatry Center Therapist Mary Thomas said, "the key thing to do is reach out to others. Friends, family just to talk. The main thing is to talk and not internalize those feelings and get them out and talk about them."

Police also say there are no signs of foul play in Poitra's death.

It could take several weeks before autopsy results are available.
