Flood protection system maintenance projects planned
A significant stretch of the Grand Forks flood protection system could soon be seeing significant maintenance to its eight miles of walls and levees.
Funding would come from a $1.2 million refund from the Army Corps of Engineers. The refund comes from excess funds paid by the city to the corps during the construction of the flood protection project. While the system already undergoes yearly maintenance, this funding would go toward larger projects such as combating erosion and the replacement of pumps and flood gates. Officials say the planned repair projects are preventative and there is no concern for the integrity of the system.
