Four rescued during night time search on Red Lake
Red Lake, MN (WDAY TV) - Four people, including two children, were rescued after a night time search Wednesday morning on Red Lake in Minnesota.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Helicopter from the North Dakota Air Branch were able to pin point the location of the four lost in their boat.
Patrolling the border is what those agents usually do, but they are occasionally called out on search and rescue missions.
The pilots were called out at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning to help out the local law enforcement on lower Red Lake.
Four people had been reported missing on the water.
After about a 20 minute air search using night vision and infrared signals they were about to identify the boat and radioed the Beltrami sheriff below in boat.
Greg Abner/Helicopter Pilot: “So once we notified the sheriff, that we had the we had the boat in site, they immediately started to converging on the spot where we showed them. And once there they through a line to the boat and started to tow it to shore.”
The helicopter uses the same infrared technology as many of the drones that a so patrol the border.
