Grand Forks Red River girls tennis team entering ND state tournament as favorite
Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) - When the North Dakota girls tennis tournament is played next weekend in Bismarck.
It's no secret that Grand Forks Red River will be the team to beat.
The Roughriders are seeking their 13th consecutive state championship.
Just three days ago, the Riders won their 14th east region title in a row.
The streak may be impressive, but Coach Greg Ladouceur says, he doesn't even mention those numbers to his team.
Greg Ladoucer/Red River Head Coach: “I know, like the girls say, it's a long number. But, it's not one that we talk about. We just worry about the next match that we have coming up.”
Mimi Yunker/RR Sr. Tennis Player: “You definitely do feel pressure being on the Red River team just because of how many state titles and region titles that we've won. It's a different opponent. It's a different day. You just have to go out playing your game. You can't stoop to anyone else's level. You just got to keep your head on right.”
Red River plays Dickinson in Thursday's quarterfinals.
