Lake Park Area Historical Society restores Becker County Country School Building
Lake Park, MN (WDAY TV) - A chance this weekend to get a taste of Minnesota's education methods, old school.
The Lake Park Area Historical Society will host an open house this Sunday at a restored Becker County Country School building.
The group has put on a new roof and installed new windows on #18, which started in Lake Park before the town was incorporated.
The one room school served the children of Lake Park in the late 1800's.
The historical society hopes to continue its work of restoring and working one of the county's last country school buildings.
Curt Hogenson/Lake Park Area Historical Society: “It's a part of our history when our forefathers came over here and started our community. Younger people aren't always interested in that, but speaking for myself, that's kinda the way I was, but the older I got, the more I started thinking about what came before me.”
At the time it was built in 1875, the school cost $125, and the teacher was paid $25 a month.
