Minnesota House Speaker visits North Country Food Bank in Crookston
Crookston, MN (WDAY TV) - The leader of the Minnesota House stopped in Crookston Thursday to see how one food bank is helping feed the hungry.
Speaker Paul Thissen's trip was part of an effort to highlight Farm to Food Shelf.
The North Country Food Bank is one of six across Minnesota that participates.
The program helps provide nutritious foods to low-income families throughout the state and reimburses farmers for the cost of harvesting, packaging and transporting surplus crops.
Paul Thissen/Speaker of the House: “There are a lot of people who are hungry and there's excess food out there right and so the real win win about this is we're able to connect those two things together 10 seconds.”
The farm to food shelf program received an additional two million dollars in to 2014 budget.
