Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) - The Twins had a chance to take the series with Baltimore this afternoon. Bad news for Joe Mauer, fresh off his best game of the season, he left early today because of back spasms.


Phil Hughes got the nod for the Minnesota, trying to lower the team's combined ERA of nearly five.

The offense gave him some early run support, in the third, Trevor Plouffe watches this hit roll into left. 2 runs score on Plouffe's 14th double of the season.

Hughes was pulled in the 7th, but former South Dakota State pitcher Caleb Thielbar bails him out, with a great play to get out of a bases loaded jam.
