MLB: Twins 2 Yankees 1
Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) - When Yankee captain Derek Jeter announced before the season that it would be his last, a deep sigh came from the state of Minnesota.
Jeter has been haunting the dreams of Twins fans for the past 18 years.
So today as part of his final series as a member of the Yankees, the Twins honored the future Hall of Famer by presenting him with 2nd base from the final game at the Metrodome, Yankees beat the Twins in that one.
To the game, Ron Gardenhire didn't like how things where being called. He wanted a balk on New York pitcher David Phelps. Marty Foster says I don't want to hear it, and gives Gardy the old heave ho.
Twins down 1-0 in the 7th. Josh Willingham changes that with his first hit of the series, he blasts this pitch to left, hitting off the facing of the upper deck; just his 8th of the year but it's a big one to tie the game at one.
Same score in the 11th, Trevor Plouffe up with the bases loaded, he taps it in front of the plate, looks like it could be an inning ending double play but Cerveli's throw to first isn't even close, Willingham comes around to score the winning run.
The Twins walk off with a win, 2-1 in extras; they go for the split Sunday afternoon.
