More than 20 years for team to win first place at Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce Walleye Tournament
It took more than 20 years for the winner's of this weekend's Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce Walleye Tournament to finally reel in the first place trophy.
Rick Darling and Jeff Trana took home first place, catching more than 45 pounds of walleye over two days.
82 teams competed for the top prize this year.
Darling says he and his partner have been fishing the tournament for more than 20 years, before teaming up in 1995.
They've come close before, finishing in the top four each of the last three years.
Darling says it's great to finally break through against the best anglers in the area.
Walleye Tournament Winner Rick Darling said, "This, to us, is the toughest tournament to win. You're fishing against the best local anglers. They've all got their areas that they fish and understand the lake."
Each winning team member received $5,000 in prize money.
But Darling says that pales in comparison to the first place plaque now hanging on his wall.
