Nearly 700 people will be without power following gas line explosion
Nearly 700 people will be without natural gas for several days following a gas line explosion outside Warren. Viking Gas Transmission Company says customers in Argyle and as far away as Thief River Falls will be impacted.
Clean-up crews were still on scene where the underground gas line ruptured. It occurred about three miles northwest of Warren. Residents who live within a two-mile radius of the explosion were evacuated.
They were allowed to returned to their homes Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the gas line runs within approximately 2 miles of the city of Warren. If the explosion occurred within that area, matters would have gotten a lot worse.
Marshall County Emergency Manager Josh Johnston said, "if it had exploded there, we would probably would have evacuated the city of Warren, which would have been a lot more work for us. So, we're lucky where it happened."
The gas line that ruptured runs from Emerson, Manitoba to Marshfield, Wisconsin. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the explosion.
