Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A big happy birthday to North Dakota! The state is celebrating its soon to be 125th birthday.

Officially, the anniversary isn't until November, but it's being celebrated today. So, we've put together some of the interesting facts about this great state.

With 8,962 people North Dakota holds the Guinness World Record for the most snow angels made simultaneously in one place.

Going along with the snow, the lowest recorded temperature in North Dakota is negative 60 degrees, the record high was 121 and North Dakota has the biggest swing between the two of all 50 states.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota with a population of 113,658 people, while the smallest town is Ruso with a population of 4 and at last count there was still more cows than people in North Dakota.

ND was the 39th state of the US and its name comes from the Dakota or Sioux Indian Tribe meaning friend or ally.

Some of the most famous people to come out of our state include Lawrence Welk, and Roger Maris.

The state bird is the Western Meadowlark and the state beverage is milk.
