He says it was a difficult decision to leave the Green Wave.

Jim Scanlan/New Bemidji State Women’s Hockey Coach: “You know the opportunity first of all to coach in the WCHA. Even more than that the opportunity to go back to Bemidji State University really made it an attractive position and really once in a lifetime opportunity for me. There is no question, being here 18 years that's a long time. Made a lot of memories and a lot of friends. That opportunity to go back to Bemidji state University was just too tempting.”

Scanlan was a two time All-American goaltender for Bemidji State, leading the Beavers to a pair of NAIA national titles in 1979 and 1980.
