Vendors prepare for Art Fest

The kick-off to one of the region's most anticipated events of the summer is underway.

The Grand Cities Art Fest begins Saturday.

Vendors prepare by getting their tents pitched and art displayed.

Part of 3rd Street downtown Grand Forks is closed off as vendors set-up for Saturday's festivities.

The Grand Cities Artfest attracts over 40,000 people to downtown Grand Forks.

Over one hundred artists from around the area bring their crafted goods whether it's jewelry, furniture or light fixtures made from wine bottles.

The event crosses the bridge into Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.

Admission and parking is free.

Visitors this year can expect music, great food, and of course artistic talent.

For both the over 200 volunteers and artists, Art Fest is something they look forward to every year.

Art Fest Volunteer Angie Byzewski said, "I always used to come here before I started working, and it's really fun to just sit and be able to talk to all the artists and get closer to people that you really didn't know before."

Artist Kevin Olufson said, "stain glass started about eight years ago as a hobby and I ran into some gal. One day I was getting pictures developed and she said maybe you should do Art Fest this year. So, I decided well I'll give it a shot, and this is my fifth year at Grand Cities."

This is the 12th year of ArtFest.

The festival will be held both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday hours are from 10 to 6.

Sunday is from 10 to 4.
