Veterans share "Warrior Words" in Grand Forks
In celebrating Memorial Day Weekend, dozens gathered in Grand Forks to share their stories of service to the country.
The presentation, called Warrior Words, featured North Dakota veterans who served in several wars including World War II, the First Gulf War and the Vietnam war.
Several talked about the hardships they faced while serving. Grand Forks was the last stop in the project. The group also presented in Minot, Bismarck and Dickinson.
Some veterans say speaking about their experiences helps others remember the sacrifices made during war.
"I can recall when I came back from Vietnam and it was 18 years before the first person said thank you for your service. It's good to see people doing that more frequently," said Michael Harvey.
All of the conversations will be compiled into a book available in August. Proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project of North Dakota.
