Xcel Energy Center to Install New Video Board
The Minnesota Wild announced Monday they will partner with Daktronics to upgrade Xcel Energy Center's fan experience with a new HD LED center-hung video board.
"We want to ensure that Xcel Energy Center continues to be one of the best arenas in the world," Vice President and General Manager Jack Larson said. "It's vital to attracting the best events and keeping fans coming back to St. Paul year after year."
The main displays on the new video board will span from blue line to blue line, measuring 19 feet high by 37.5 feet wide.
The end displays will measure 19 feet high by 24 feet wide and Two circular displays will also be added to each side of the main display, measuring four feet in diameter.
A top and bottom ring will also be featured on the new display board, measuring three feet by 145 feet for the top and three feet by 120 feet on the bottom.
Xcel's current video board, which was installed in 2000 by Daktronics, features four displays that are each nine feet by 16 feet, meaning the new board will be nearly six times the size of the current board.
"Daktronics is a proven leader in this industry and we are confident and really excited about adding these new technologies and what they will mean for in-arena opportunities," Minnesota Wild Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka said. "We want to enhance our home ice advantage and give back to the fans what they give us each and every night."
The new display will feature excellent image clarity and contrast, with wide-angle viewing capacity guaranteeing a clear view of the display from any seat in the arena.
Also included in the project are replacement exterior marquees and ribbon displays for the interior of the arena.
The new boards will largely be manufactured in Minnesota and installed over the summer at Xcel Energy Center. The official unveiling of the new display will be at the Wild's home opener September 26 against the Winnipeg Jets.
