DL City Commission Postpones Gravity-fed Outlet Discussion

It's been a hot issue recently as Governor Jack Dalrymple publicly supports the project, despite downstream concerns near Valley City.

The Devils Lake City Commission has decided to postpone discussion of a gravity-fed outlet on Stump Lake.

It's been a hot issue recently as Governor Jack Dalrymple publicly supports the project, despite downstream concerns near Valley City.

The commissioners will eventually have to decide if they will allow the Army Corps of Engineers on the city's land to build a control structure at the Tolna Coulee.

The commission decided to delay the discussion because their attorney said he needed more time for research on the various issues.

"We want to make sure the language is exact, precise and what we want to have in there," Devils Lake mayor Dick Johnson said.

The city commission is opposed to the control structure as currently designed, and has told Dalrymple that the control structure on the Tolna Coulee goes hand in hand with a gravity-fed outlet on Stump Lake.
