26 new police officers graduated from the Lake Region State College Police Academy in Grand Forks.

26 new police officers graduated from the Lake Region State College Police Academy in Grand Forks.

This was the second graduation from the Grand Forks Academy.

Officers spent 14 weeks in the program.

Lake Region State College has four police academies each year. Grand Forks and Fargo host the summer, Devils Lake in the fall, and Minot in the spring.

"Its about half hands on and half academic. So they learn all their criminal law and traffic law and search and seizure, and then they learn all of their emergency driving and traffic stops and firearms and defensive tactics as well," Peace Officer Training Director Lloyd Halvorson said.

One graduate has already been hired by the Fargo Police Department. The academy in Fargo will be graduating 29 new officers tomorrow.
