For the past 20 years, a local group has been giving money to children of low income families around Grand Forks county to go Christmas shopping.

The 21st annual Sox for Kids benefit was held tonight at the Reynolds Knights of Columbus Hall.

Volunteers from around Northwood, Buxton and Reynolds have been gathering donations for an auction and raffle.

Last year, they gave each child nearly 100 dollars to pick out gifts.

"it opened my eyes the first year I went with them, I thought they would just want to go buy toys for themselves, but they want to give to their other family members too," benefit organizer Jay Johnson said.

The group says they're hoping to raise nearly 40 thousand dollars from tonight's event.

They're also auctioning off a cow and a private Super Bowl party for 25 people.
