ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota man convicted of killing his infant daughter seven years ago has been released from jail after winning a new trial.
Michael Hansen has been behind bars for six years for the death of 3-month-old Avryonna Hansen. He was released from the Douglas County Jail in Alexandria on Thursday after posting bail. A new trial was won on evidence presented by the Innocence Project of Minnesota.
A defense attorney says an independent review found the baby likely died of accidental suffocation while she slept. The infant's death was ruled a homicide after a medical examiner found the girl had a skull fracture. The 34-year-old Hansen was convicted of second-degree murder in 2004 and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/pqg8Va) says Hansen's new trial is scheduled for October.
