BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Former U.S. Senate candidate Tracy Potter is appealing to incumbent North Dakota Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad to rethink his retirement plans and run for re-election.

Conrad said last January he wouldn't seek another term. He said then he didn't to be distracted from working to relieve the nation's debt problem and its dependence on foreign oil.

Potter has started a Facebook appeal to talk Conrad back into the race. Potter says no one is better equipped than Conrad to tackle the debt problem.

A spokesman for Conrad says the senator is reaffirming his retirement plans.

Potter was the North Dakota Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate last year when incumbent Democrat Byron Dorgan left. Republican John Hoeven won with 76 percent of the vote.
