DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A Dickinson man who admitted running down his wife with his pickup truck has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.

The attorney for 29-year-old Tyler Pelton tells The Dickinson Press (http://bit.ly/qg24Mj ) that Pelton didn't want to put his wife and children through a trial. It was scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Authorities say Pelton ran over his wife during an argument last December, causing internal injuries that required surgery. Defense attorney Kevin McCabe says that if a judge approves a plea agreement with prosecutors, Pelton will be sentenced to serve 12 years in prison.

Pelton earlier pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in the case. McCabe says the sentence would also cover that conviction.
