The cold weather not only affects people but cars too. This morning American Tire South braved the bitter cold towing and jump starting dead cars.

Workers there say the cold kills the batteries quickly.

This car had to be towed because the block heater died. When the owner went out to start the car before work he says the engine did nothing. American Tire says its not uncommon, they can get as many as 10 calls on a cold day to tow or jump start a car.

Anthony Beer: "it just doesn't want to start at all it just wines and that's it."

Josh Fonder: "It pretty common if you have block heater you should plug in your car and have your batteries checked."

American Tire says a block heater is really the only way to ensure your car will start once it drops below zero if you don't have garage.
