EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Minnesota high school open the football season next week and for Sacred Heart, game one is a week from tonight.

Drew Mortenson is the Eagles' new head coach after fives years as an assistant.

The Eagles hope to improved on last year's 1-8 record.

Six starters return on both side of the ball and Mortenson says his team is almost game-ready.

"We're getting there. We've got the top of the state jamboree coming up here on Saturday. We have four tough scrimmages there. That'll show, quite a bit, how far along we are. Like I said, we've gotten better every practice, every time we run offense, every time we run defense, it's getting to where everybody knows what they're doing, it looks good but we'll see on Sunday. We've got some tough competition we play and that's what we want," Mortenson said.

The Eagles open next Thursday at home against Waubun.
