GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota says one of the school's former deans, Vito Perrone, has passed away. He was 78.

Perrone, who served as dean of the UND Center for Teaching and Learning from 1972 to 1986, passed away on Aug. 24 in Cambridge, Mass.

Perrone, a native of Bath, Mich., was also dean for the New School of Behavioral Studies at UND for four years.

Before his time at UND, he taught history and education and served as dean of the Graduate School at Northern Michigan University.

Perrone left UND in 1986 to become Vice President at the national Carnegie Foundation for Advancement in Teaching. He later joined the faculty of the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
