ERSKINE, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Authorities say a fire that destroyed an unoccupied Polk County home was the result of arson.

Polk County Sheriff's Office sergeant James Tadman says it is unclear whether the house fire had anything to do with a massive grain elevator fire in Eldred, MN. Authorities say the house fire was set sometime during the elevator fire and that it was an immediate drain on fire resources as multiple local fire departments responded.

The house fire was started at 37210 160th Ave. SE. sometime between 7 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. Thursday. The home is a short distance from the Woodside Township town hall, which was burglarized the same morning, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. It's still unknown if the two crimes are related.

The Sheriff's Office says the house fire placed firefighters and homeowners in several cities in danger and tied up emergency responders.

Authorities are looking for help in indentifying a suspect in the arson fire. A reward of up to $2,500 is offered for information leading to a conviction. You can call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020 or the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 218-281-0431.
