Warren Keller, who coached Argyle to two Minnesota 9-man high school football championships in the 1980s, died Tuesday morning at a hospital in Roseau, MN, after a long battle with cancer.

Keller was 70.

Keller led Argyle to a MInnesota state 9-man football title in 1986, and was an assistant coach on Argyle's 1981 state championship team, under head coach Connie Lubarski. Keller also coached basketball at Argyle, and later coached football and basketball at Warroad.

Keller was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2001. Keller later entered the Minnesota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010.

UND men's hockey associate head coach Cary Eades worked with Keller at Warroad High School. Eades said he learned a lot from the way Keller lived.

"Number one was (his) work ethic," Eades said. "I have never met a man who worked as hard as he did. He just led by example. If there was a ditch to be dug, he dug it, and others followed. (He was) just a tremendous leader of men."

Eades will be a pall bearer at Keller's funeral service, which is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warroad. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., with an 8:00 P.M. prayer service at the church.
