Thirty-three-year-old Alman Wong originally was charged with attempted murder, but he ended up pleading guilty last fall to gross sexual imposition and aggravated assault charges.

A man who assaulted and raped a woman at a North Dakota hotel has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Thirty-three-year-old Alman Wong originally was charged with attempted murder, but he ended up pleading guilty last fall to gross sexual imposition and aggravated assault charges.

Wong was accused in the assault of a maid at a Mandan hotel in May 2008. Authorities say the woman was knocked unconscious and raped.

Wong at one point also faced federal gun charges after allegedly stealing weapons from a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper's squad car. Those charges were dropped so Wong could be brought back from Montana, where he was arrested, to face the state charges.

Wong has spent time previously in federal custody in Montana, Washington and California.
