NEAR ST. THOMAS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Sugar beet growers who met with American Crystal Sugar CEO Dave Berg at a farm near St. Thomas, ND, were greeted by locked-out union workers.

Union workers say they counted nearly 100 people going into the farm yard, which was protected by security.

No one coming out of the meeting would comment as to what it was about.

Union workers say they just want the growers to know that they want to go back to work.

"We've stood shoulder to shoulder with the farmers through the farm bill battle and the farm bill battle is coming up again. I think there is a bigger battle to be fought other than fighting over this contract language that the management is proposing," union spokesperson Bradley Nelson said.

Crystal CEO Dave Berg has said he hopes the union and the company will continue to work well together after a contract is agreed upon.
