NEAR BEMIDJI, MN (WDAZ-TV) - A wrong-way driver caused a crash on Highway 2 near bemidji Wednesday evening, critically injuring an Ada, MN, woman.

The State Patrol says Chad Westrum, 39, of Solway, MN, was driving a 1998 Chevy Tahoe at about 8:40 p.m. south in the northbound lane of state Highway 89. Westrum ran multiple vehicles off of the road.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office reported at least 15 911 calls regarding the driver.

The patrol reports that Westrum was driving east in the westbound lane of Highway 2 when he struck a Suburu on the side of the vehicle. Westrum then struck an Oldsmobile Alero head on.

In the Alero were driver Andrea Waagen, 27, of Ada, MN, and passenger Delsie Konoske, 63, of Ada. Waagen was critically injured in the crash and was airlifted to Essentia Health in Fargo.

Konoske had non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Subaru had no injury.

The Tahoe and Oldsmobile were totaled and were blocking both lanes of the highway when a responding Beltrami County Sheriff's deputy sideswiped the rear of the Oldsmobile, entered the ditch and struck a sign.

The deputy was treated and release from the hospital.

Westrum had minor injuries in the crash.

The patrol says alcohol was a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
