Deadline Approaching For Devils Lake to Give Up Tolna Coulee Land

DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - The city of Devils Lake has until Tuesday to give up the land it owns at the Tolna Coulee.

DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - The city of Devils Lake has until Tuesday to give up the land it owns at the Tolna Coulee.

The state and the Army Corps of Engineers need the land to build a control structure at the Tolna Coulee.

If the city does not agree to give over the rights to the land, the state plans to take the property through eminent domain.

The mayor of Devils Lake says he expected this to happen, but had hoped the city and the state could have negotiated before taking the situation to court.

In a letter to the city, State Engineer Todd Sando said the state needs the title to about seven acres of land and easements to another 77 acres.

The corps plans to open bids for the project on September 13, no matter what.
