GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The long-vacant Target store in the Columbia Mall will soon be occupied by a new, larger Scheels store, the company announced Tuesday.

The new store is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014, with additions like hunting simulators, a youth shop, play area, deli and a Starbucks. The expansion will double the number of full time jobs at the store.

The lease for the current store on Columbia Road is expiring, and the company says there is no better time to move.

The new store will be 120,000 square feet and will occupy all of the space of the former Target store. A new Target was built on 32nd Avenue S. near Gordmans.

The company didn't say what the plans are for the current store, but said it will remain open until the new store is ready.
