Fifth graders at Central Middle School in Devils Lake were surprised by what recently came in the mail. They received a letter from President Obama.
The students wrote to the president last year when they were in fourth grade at Minnie H Elementary School. They say they didn't expect a response. They wrote to him to encourage him to quit smoking. They say they wanted to get him to quit and encourage other American smokers to quit. The President wrote back thanking them for their letters. He encouraged them to work hard and to improve their communities and their country.
Alexis Krantz: "He didn't mention anything about smoking in there, but he did say a lot of good things about us."
Colton Hartl: "We're excited because we didn't really think he was going to respond back."
The President also sent a picture of himself and biographies of First Lady Michelle Obama and the First Dog Bo.
