ND Man Sentenced for Kitchen Knife Assault

(WDAZ-TV) - A Porcupine, ND, man was sentenced Monday on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Elmer Flying Horse, 25, earlier plead guilty to the charge.

Flying Horse will spend two years and three months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon.

Flying Horse also has to pay over $8,000 in restitution.

On March 31, Flying Horse and his younger brother gathered to celebrate Flying Horse's birthday. That evening, the brother got into a verbal argument with the victim that quickly became physical.

Flying Horse, in an attempt to help his brother, joined in the fight and stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife several times, according to a release from Purdon.

The victim required medical treatment for his injuries.
