Devils Lake Mayor: No Negotiation With State About Tolna Coulee Land

DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - Devils Lake mayor Dick Johnson says hopes for negotiating with the state about the Tolna Coulee control structure have been shot down.

DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - Devils Lake mayor Dick Johnson says hopes for negotiating with the state about the Tolna Coulee control structure have been shot down.

After a phone call with the North Dakota governor Jack Dalrymple, Johnson said the state was only willing to negotiate the price of the land.

City officials were hoping they could negotiate the level of the gravity outlet and the timeline for the outlets and control structure, but that didn't happen.

"He said the best he could do was on the table now," Johnson said.

The city of Devils Lake is fighting the state's right to Quick Take the land it needs to build a control structure at the Tolna Coulee.

The Army Corps of Engineers already has five bids for the project and plans to start construction in October.
