Freeze Warning in Effect Until 8 a.m. Thursday For Most of Region

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The National Weather Service is Grand Forks has issued a freeze warning for much of the region in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The National Weather Service is Grand Forks has issued a freeze warning for much of the region in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 20s with some areas seeing lower 20s. The coldest area will be around Bemidji, Park Rapids and Wadena.

A high pressure system from Canada will move in, bringing clear skies and a widespread freeze.

You should cover any sensitive plants or bring them inside.

Thursday will be a bit milder, with southerly winds. Clouds will increase on Friday and Saturday afternoon brings a chance for showers.

Cities affected in the freeze warning:

Crookston, East Grand Forks, Halstad, Moorhead, Hallock, Roseau, Baudette, Warren, Newfolden, Red Lake, Thief River Falls, Red Lake Falls, Fosston, Bagley, Bemidji, Mahnomen, Lake Itasca, Park Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Wolf Lake, Breckenridge, Fergus Falls, New York Mills, Wadena, Elbow Lake, Cando, Langdon, Cavalier, Maddock, Leeds, Devils Lake, Grafton, New Rockford, Lakota, Grand Forks, Cooperstown, Finley, Mayville, Valley City, Fargo, Lisbon, Gwinner, Wahpeton and Adams.

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. The cold temperatures will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Forecast for Grand Forks area:

Thursday: Widespread frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 58. South wind between 5 and 11 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. South wind between 8 and 11 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind between 9 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. South wind between 10 and 14 mph.

Forecast for Fargo area:

Thursday: Widespread frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 59. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. South wind between 7 and 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind between 8 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 47. South southeast wind between 10 and 13 mph.
