GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man sentenced to life in prison for a bank robbery in Gilby is appealing his sentence.

Clifton Patterson pleaded guilty in June to bank robbery and was convicted at trial in August on other charges, including aiding and abetting the use and carrying of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Authorities say Patterson and William Collins used a handgun and a shotgun to threaten a teller during the May 2009 heist at the Bremer Bank branch.

Patterson filed his notice last week with the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
