DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - The State Water Commission will provide an additional $10.5 million to the Devils Lake Embankment project.
On Monday, the Devil Lake City Commission finalized the paper stating that the city does not have to provide more funding for the project.
The Army Corps of Engineers is raising the embankment to a elevation of 1468 feet, which will provide permanent protection for the city.
The estimated cost recently jumped from $113 million to $155 million last month. The city is providing $2.9 million for the project, with the state agreeing to pay the rest of the 25 percent local share for the project.
"We're up to about $155 million now since 2002 and the state did commit to taking on that cost after we put in our $2.9 million," mayor Dick Johnson said.
Now the state will pay almost $36 million for the embankment project.
