EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - The warm weather is helping the Red River State Recreation Area make up for lost time.
The Minnesota state government shutdown caused the campground to lose business for three weeks.
The campground has been busier than usual over the past month with campers trying to get in one last trip before winter.
Park manager Gladwin Lynne says the campground lost nearly 1,100 campers during the shutdown.
Over the past month they have made up some of that loss with 600 more campers than usual.
Lynne says the nice weather has extended the season and weekends are still busier than usual.
"We're catching up a little bit, but we're not going to catch up all the way. But we look like we're going to have a pretty good beginning to October here because the Canadian thanksgiving is coming up this weekend and we're expecting a pretty good crowd for that," Lynne said.
Campers say this is a nice time of year to stay at the campground which keeps it booming with business.
Lynne says the park won't make up for all the campers it lost during the shutdown, but he is happy with making up for more than half.
The campground will be open until October 22 and campers say that is later than many of the places they've looked into, so they have that on their side.
