FESSENDEN, N.D. — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of three people who were killed after two vans crashed head-on near Fessenden on Sunday.
Troopers say 54-year-old Gerrad Sturm, of Maple Plain, Minn., attempted to pass a semitrailer on State Highway 52 early Sunday night and struck another southbound van head-on.
Troopers say rain appeared to have obstructed Sturm's vision. He died at the scene, about 11 miles south of Fessenden.
The patrol says 74-year-old Carl Siebert, of Jamestown, was driving the southbound van, while 79-year-old Irene Siebert, also of Jamestown, was the passenger. Carl Siebert was killed at the scene, while Irene Siebert was pronounced dead at a Fargo hospital.
