The parking crunch at Central High School will soon ease up as the school district comes closer to providing the required 330 parking spaces for the school.
Tonight the school board voted to buy a lot at 211 North 5th Street. That lot is right next to an existing parking lot at 201 North 5th Street that was passed from the city to the school district last week through the Joint Powers Agreement.
The existing parking lot coupled with the new purchase will allow the school district to own and control about 92 parking stalls across the street from the high school.
The lot at 211 North 5th Street will cost the district $275,000.
"We're not getting a bargain, I'm not trying to say it's a bargain. But I think it's a fair price for a piece of property right across the street, and it gives you the option of putting that second level on," Business Manager Bill Hutchison said.
There is potential of putting a second level on the space that will accommodate about 175 cars. There is a building on the lot that will need to be demolished.
