MINNEWAUKAN, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The mayor of Minnewaukan, ND, and the previous owner of the town's only grocery story has been found guilty and sentenced on writing a check without sufficient funds.
Trish McQuoid pleaded guilty to the charge, a Class C felony.
She was sentenced Monday to one year and one day in jail, but that term was suspended. She'll serve three years probation effective Tuesday and has to pay $2,367 in restitution. Along with court fees, McQuoid has to pay a total of $3,459.
According to a criminal complaint, McQuoid issued a check for $2,367 from the account of her grocery store in May.
The check bounced and the store was closed in July.
McQuoid pleaded guilty to a similar charge in 2010. In that case, she was placed on 18 months probation and ordered to pay restitution and fees totaling more than $5,000.
McQuoid was represented by attorney Ulysses Jones.
