GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Alerus Center handed over its management to the city of Grand Forks, but it can't sell liquor, which is the second biggest profit source at the Alerus.
The Alerus Center commission put the city in charge of the venue's management Wednesday to avoid paying a management firm.
But because state law forbids cities from holding liquor licenses, the Alerus center will have to outsource a private vendor.
That will take a cut out of the business.
Alerus Center commissioner David Evenson voted against city operation Wednesday because he thinks outsourcing a liquor vendor contradicts the aim to break even.
But the Alerus Center is asking vendors for bids anyway.
